GETS Pilot Program for Hurricane Region Officially Kicks off

[3/17/2008 2:04 PM CST]

DFW First continues to advocate on behalf of North Texas regional financial institutions and has broken new ground with expanding the availability of this important public sector program.  DFW First believes this important program is absolutely essential for financial institutions to maintain effective communications during a regional crisis.

DFW First (www.dfwfirst.org) has been working on a joint FSSCC/FBBIIC (www.fsscc.org / www.fbiic.gov) working group to initiate a more accessible GETS (Government Emergency Telecommunications Service) program for financial institutions in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) region.  The result of these efforts is a GETS pilot program which will run from March 17-May 2, 2008.  This program is designed to provide accessible GETS sponsorship for financial services institutions, regardless of size, located in Hurricane regions (eg. Texas) that meets specified criteria.  DFW First is the regional private/public sector partnership component of the pilot program so if your respective financial services institution has not yet received GETS cards, please contact DFW First for more information or assistance in signing up.  The pilot program application is available for a limited time and can be found at http://www.fbiic.gov/getspilotprogram.

It is should be noted that certain criteria is emphasized for the requesting institution to obtain approval under this program.  Being a member of a regional public/private sector partnership such as DFW First and a sector state associations such as TBA (Texas Banker Association) improves the requesting institution’s chances for approval (please see GETS Pilot Program application on website).  GETS sponsorship is a stated benefit for corporate memberships with DFW First.
